“Gangnam Style” is set to hit Canada, however, don’t start looking for tickets to the PSY show
‘Gangnam Style,’ which become world-known, thanks to a sensationally popular single by Korean super star PSY, is now targeting Canada in a very unusual way.
The term, known to probably half of the world’s population following a single of the same name, by PSY, which took Youtube by storm, refers to the elite lifestyle in Gangnam district of South Korea’s capital Seoul.
Nevertheless, a little-known Korean tobacco company is sticking upon the global success of the song to market their new product, set to be introduced to Canada’s cigarette market.
“One of our new-comers to the Canadian market will bear the name of ‘Gangnam,’ as people are already aware of the meaning of this Korean term, thanks to PSY’s ‘Gangnam Style,'” declared Kang Cheol Jung, Chief Executive Officer of **KT&G Canada**, in an interview with Yohnap News.
KT&G Canada is a unit of Korean KT&G, leading cigarette maker on the Korean market, known to smokers for its flagship ESSE brand.
The other brands of cigarettes to be introduced to Canadian market by KT&G Canada include Midas and 38. Both brands represent Virginia cigarette blend.
All the cigarettes will be manufactured in Canada, by a local cigarette plant on the basis on consignment, and will be available for sale across Ontario by the end of February, according to the company CEO.
“We are planning to expand our business to the markets of United States, Latin American countries and European Union,” added Kang, noting that they hope Korean cigarette brands will help promote the good image of their home country,” the Korea Herald wrote.
It’s interesting if PSY already knows his success is used in promotion of tobacco products across the world.
